International Festival of Shanty Music

17th June - 20th June 2010

2nd International Festival of Shanty Choirs SHANTYFEST 2009 was held in Prague in June 2009 and it was again a big success. About 600 musicians from the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Norway attended this event. Prague citizens and its visitors had the opportunity to listen and to enjoy their beautiful shanty songs at the most attractive places in the heart of Prague - such as Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square, Kampa, Charles Bridge, Wallenstein and Ledeburg gardens. Not only the historical setting but also the Vltava river - the theme of many famous songs - created the unique atmosphere of the shanty festival. The audience was charmed by colourful display of costumes, variety of traditional instruments and especially by the excellent performance of all shanty participants.

Shantyfest 2009 has become one of Prague´s popular music event and a new tradition! So come and join us at our third course of SHANTYFEST 2010, which will take place from June 17th to June 20th 2010 !!! The festival is held under the patronage of the chairman of the Senate of the Czech Parliament, Mr. Premysl Sobotka.

Shanty Festival Programme

Time Plan

17th June Thursday

19.00 Meeting of representatives of groups and organiser and representatives of the Vltavan group in the museum of rafting in Prague Podskalí. After the formal meeting and excursion, dinner in the restaurant (at the same building).

18th June Friday

9:00 Outdoor half-day city tour Walking through Strahov Monastery to the view point, then passing Loreta complex coming to the Prague Castle. 12.00 Joint lunch close by Prague Castle. 14.00 - 18.00 Opening joint concerts at Wallenstein and Ledeburg Gardens. evening Evening optional - theatre performance, folklore evening, beer evening, Vltava river ship cruise with dinner.....

19th June Saturday

10.00 - 16.00 Concerts in Prague historical centre (Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square ...) individual lunch 16.30 Leaving by boats from the port towards natural entertainment complex on the banks of the River Vltava - Zlute lazne 17.30 Arrival to the Garden party with barbecue dinner and entertainment. Individual departure.

We can prepare extra programme ( trips out of Prague, extra performances in senior residences, etc.) for those choirs who would like to extend their staying in Prague.
